Currently, it pulls nine coaches (1,062 passengers) on economy-class tickets and two coaches (138 passengers) on first-class tickets.
It charges KSh3,000 for first-class coaches and KSh1,000 for economy-class coaches.
Travellers using the Madaraka Express can book, pay or cancel tickets by dialling a USSD code ( *639#) from any phone, including a feature phone.
Passengers can also book their tickets over the internet following the introduction of the online booking system by the Kenya Railways Corporation.
The platform enables customers to purchase a maximum of five tickets per transaction and pay via M-Pesa.
Upon payment, the customer will receive a transaction confirmation message via phone with an option to check the ticket status online.
