Safaricom chief executive Bob Collymore says he is back after taking a 9-month extended medical leave.

Collymore who has been on medical leave since October 2017  announced on his Twitter feed, “I’m back. Thanks to everyone who supported me over the past 9 months…”

He thanked his clinical team at the University College London Hospitals, the Safaricom team, and his wife, Wambui Kamiru.

In his absence, Safaricom chief financial officer Sateesh Kamath took a primary role supported by Joseph Ogutu – the company’s director of Strategy and Innovation.

During the period, in May, Safaricom announced a 9.5 per cent increase in net profit to KSh26.2 billion for the six months ended September 30 attributed to a strong performance of mobile money platform M-Pesa and data.
