Global food prices rose in April for the first time in a year driven by a “steep increase” in sugar prices, as well as increased costs for meat and rice, according to the United Nations’ food agency. The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks monthly changes in the international prices of commonly-traded food commodities, averaged 127.2 points in April 2023, up 0.6 per cent from March. World food prices declined for the 12th consecutive month in March, the United Nations food agency said on Friday.
