Angelica Pesha is leaving her post as Chief Executive Officer of Mixx Tanzania after more than 15 years with the business. Louis Favot, who ran MVola in Madagascar, succeeds her.
Mixx Tanzania announced the change in a statement that traces Pesha’s career from the early days of Tigo Pesa to the current Mixx platform. The statement does not give an effective date for the handover.
From Tigo Pesa to Mixx
Pesha joined Tigo’s mobile financial services unit in April 2011 as a financial and operations analyst. Before that she spent almost four years at Barclays Bank Tanzania as a performance analyst. She then moved through planning, quality assurance and corporate roles at Tigo, and served as acting head of mobile financial services from May 2019.
Mixx says she helped drive the changes that reshaped mobile money in Tanzania. It lists mobile money interoperability, cross border transfers, the Tigo Pesa app, links between wallets and banks, international money transfers, and expansion into payments, savings and digital lending. Tigo Pesa became the first mobile money service in Africa to offer full interoperability in 2014, letting customers move money between Vodacom, Airtel and Zantel.
Mixx says Pesha took the lead of the business in 2020. Under her, the company moved from the Tigo Pesa name to Mixx and built the governance, systems, processes, leadership structures and staff for its next phase. AXIAN Telecom and a consortium with Rostam Azizi acquired Millicom’s Tanzanian operations in 2022, including Tigo Tanzania and Tigo Pesa.
The Business She Leaves
Pesha reported figures for the business in 2025. She said Mixx by Yas enables more than 20 million Tanzanians to make transactions worth about Sh6 trillion each month, through more than 200,000 agents. The same report said more than 500,000 businesses accept digital payments through its platforms.
Her record drew recognition this year. Pesha received the Female ICT Leadership Award at the TEHAMA Awards on 9 August 2026, where Mixx also won first place in the Mobile Financial Services Innovation category.
Mixx’s statement describes her legacy as one of culture as well as products. It says she built an organisation where staff speak up, take ownership, challenge ideas and lead. It cites her reminders that “Nothing is bigger than all of us” and “It’s not done until it’s done.”
The company thanked her “for your vision, leadership, belief in our people.” It said her impact “will remain part of the Mixx story for years to come.”

Pesha on What Comes Next
Pesha trained in accounting at the University of Dar es Salaam, qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in 2015, and completed a fintech programme at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, in 2020. She describes her next phase as developing leaders.
“I aim to multiply the creation of multi talented and transformational leaders who are ready to up their game,” she says in her own statement. She adds: “I believe alone I can go fast, but together we can go even further. The journey has just begun, and it’s not done until it’s done.”
Louis Favot Takes Over
Favot has 17 years of experience across banking, microfinance, mobile money and digital financial services, 14 of them in Sub-Saharan Africa. Mixx says his work covers financial inclusion, product development, operations, customer experience, distribution and technology transformation.
He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of MVola, the mobile money arm of AXIAN Group in Madagascar. He held that role from December 2022 to July 2026, after serving as its Chief Operating Officer from July 2020.
Before MVola, he spent eight years at Groupe Baobab, where he managed Nano loan and credit scoring products rolled out in nine subsidiaries across Africa. He holds a Certified Expert in Microfinance qualification from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
Mixx credits him with leading MVola’s strategy and its evolution into Madagascar’s first digital bank. MVola launched in 2010 as Madagascar’s first mobile money service and received a bank licence in 2021. Favot also oversaw a range of financial services built to be more accessible to customers.
