National Bank of Kenya reported pretax profit of KES 2.18 billion for the six months to June 30, 2026, up 124.3% from the same period last year, according to unaudited results announced by the board of directors.
Profit after tax rose 60.5% to KES 1.72 billion, and earnings per share increased 61.9% to KES 0.68. The results were signed on behalf of the board by Director L. Omangi and Ag. Managing Director J. Ojalla.
The bank attributed the profit growth largely to a decline in interest expense rather than to higher lending income. Total interest income fell 2.7% to KES 7.20 billion, while total interest expense dropped 29.0% to KES 1.80 billion. Net interest income rose 11.0% to KES 5.40 billion as a result.
Total non interest income was down 0.8% at KES 1.47 billion. Combined with the net interest income gain, total operating income rose 8.2% to KES 6.87 billion.
On the balance sheet, total assets grew 18.9% to KES 157.09 billion. Net loans and advances rose 38.4% to KES 61.28 billion, and customer deposits increased 16.1% to KES 116.34 billion. Total shareholders’ funds grew 18.7% to KES 18.41 billion.
At the bank level, core capital rose 16.8% to KES 12.01 billion and total capital rose 7.4% to KES 15.37 billion. The liquidity ratio stood at 61.1%, down from 69.5% a year earlier. Gross non performing loans and advances at the bank level rose 3.2% to KES 17.85 billion.
