Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited has announced the appointment of Birju Sanghrajka as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Head of Coverage for Kenya, subject to regulatory approvals.
He will succeed Kariuki Ngari, who retires on 16 April 2026 after a remarkable 24-year career with the Bank.
Ngari, who became CEO in 2019, spearheaded a bold digital transformation strategy. Today, more than 90% of transactions across Wealth, Retail, and Corporate Banking are conducted digitally. His tenure also saw resilient financial performance, a shift in Wealth and Retail Banking towards a wealth-led model, and significant growth in Assets under Management (AUM).
Driving Impact Beyond Banking
Beyond financial results, Ngari championed sustainability and community impact, aligning the Bank with global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards. Under his leadership:
- The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon grew participation by 78%.
- Funds raised for Futuremakers increased by 76%, reaching a record KES 76 million.
These initiatives reinforced the Bank’s role as a trusted partner in Kenya’s communities.
