Women for Women International (WfWI) has named Thelma Ekiyor as its new Global Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new era of leadership rooted in women’s empowerment, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration.
With over 25 years of experience in international development, Ekiyor brings a bold vision and a proven track record of championing women’s economic power, social entrepreneurship, and inclusive philanthropy.

A Career Built on Impact
Dr. Ekiyor has carved a transformative path across Africa’s development landscape, championing inclusive growth, philanthropy, and civil society leadership. Her pioneering contributions span national institutions, regional accelerators, and global advisory boards.
- As Chairperson of the Nigeria Office for Philanthropy and Impact Investing, she steers strategic initiatives that unlock capital for social change and sustainable development.
- She is the Co-founder of SME.NG and Afrigrants, Nigeria’s largest all-women’s accelerator, are empowering female entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship, and market access.
- Her executive leadership at the TY Danjuma Foundation and the West African Civil Society Institute (WACSI) has strengthened grassroots advocacy and institutional capacity across the region.
- On the global stage, she serves as an International Advisory Board Member for the Global Centre on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), advancing human rights and conflict prevention.
- She also co-founded and co-chairs Women in Philanthropy & Impact (WIPIA), a pan-African network amplifying women’s voices in impact investing and philanthropic leadership.
