Kenya’s largest supermarket chain has announced a major leadership shift, appointing Andreas von Paleske as Chief Executive Officer effective November 1, 2025.
The move signals a new chapter for the retail giant as it steps away from founder-family leadership after more than three decades of growth.
Von Paleske, who has served as Naivas’ Chief of Strategy for the past eight years, brings deep experience in retail and investment. His appointment follows a long-term succession plan designed to sustain the company’s growth trajectory.
“This is a moment of continuity and renewal,” said von Paleske. “Naivas is built on strong foundations, and I’m honoured to lead the next phase of its journey.”
Outgoing CEO David Kimani, a member of the founding family, will continue to serve on the board in an advisory capacity.
Kimani is widely credited with transforming Naivas into a national retail powerhouse, expanding the chain to over 100 stores and employing more than 10,000 people.
“It’s been an incredible journey,” Kimani reflected. “From a single store in Nakuru to becoming Kenya’s most trusted supermarket brand, I’m proud of what we’ve built together.”
The leadership transition coincides with Naivas’ 35th anniversary, reinforcing its commitment to retail excellence and strategic evolution.
