Deontay Wilder in ‘amazing shape’ ahead of a trilogy bout with Tyson Fury.
Wilder is said to be in “amazing physical shape” for the third Tyson Fury fight as reported by the American’s protégé Raphael Akpejiori.
Wilder has offered guidance to Akpejiori, a heavyweight contender with a string of early knockout wins, and the Nigerian could be set to spar with the former WBC king ahead of the trilogy fight against Fury, which is due in December.
Wilder suffered a brutal and shocking loss to Tyson Fury back in February when the pair met in their second clash – the first one having ended in a controversial draw.
Fury outboxed and outclassed the Bronze Bomber from Alabama, before stopping him in the seventh round via a TKO, after the American’s trainer had thrown in the towel.
Wilder would then trigger the rematch clause in their contract for a third fight as he seeks to avenge the loss and reclaim his WBC title.
The Alabama man has recently intensified his training in Miami, undergoing speed and conditioning sessions with the same coach that also boosts the stamina and power of Akpejiori.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Akpejiori said:
‘Based on what I know, the only person that can beat Deontay right now is Deontay,’
‘Right now he is in amazing physical shape, that I can tell you for sure. You will see a completely different Deontay, mentally and physically in the ring, when that bell rings again for that third fight. That I can tell you.’
