Mercedes are confident that Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will renew their contracts into the 2021 season.
Sebastian Vettel is set to leave Ferrari and rumors have been that the driver will join Mercedes.
However, Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius stated that Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will renew their contracts and thus will not be interested in signing Vettel.
Ferrari announced that they would not be extending Vettel’s contract ahead of the 2021 campaign, with Carlos Sainz Jr set to replace the British.
A dream team of Hamilton and Vettel had been in the offing, but this hope has now been diminished.
Hints had been floated that Vettel could join McLaren, but Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris have been confirmed for next year.
Red Bull’s Christian Horner also made it clear that he would not be reuniting with Vettel.
Bottas has struggled to keep up with Hamilton at Mercedes and team principal Toto Wolff suggested he would look at the four-time world champion ahead of the 2021 season.
Bottas won the first race of the significantly delayed 2020 F1 season at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, having started on pole.
Only 11 drivers finished the race, with Vettel coming 10th and Hamilton finishing fourth.
