A Decade of Contribution
Muriuki joined Cellulant more than a decade ago as an implementation engineer when the company’s primary focus was mobile banking. Over the years, he has been central to Cellulant’s transformation into a comprehensive payments platform serving multiple sectors across the continent.

- Pan-African Expansion: Designed and scaled Ecobank’s mobile banking platform across 33 African nations.
- Infrastructure Modernisation: As Vice President of Software Engineering, led the migration of the Tingg platform into a cloud-native microservices architecture.
Scaling the Tingg Platform
The modernisation of Tingg delivered significant impact. In 2025, the platform grew from processing 1 million transactions daily to 4.5 million, while improving reliability and market penetration across e-commerce, telecoms, travel, and remittances.
Mandate as CPTO
In his new role, Muriuki will oversee:
- Technology Foundations: Strengthening infrastructure to support rising transaction volumes.
- Advanced Capabilities: Expanding AI, data, and insights tools to provide merchants with more than just payments.
- Customer-Centric Development: Aligning product innovation with the complex needs of enterprise clients across Africa.
Executive Endorsement
Peter O’Toole, Cellulant’s Chief Executive Officer, praised Muriuki’s leadership:
“Mike’s technical judgment, calm leadership, and strong ownership have consistently delivered measurable results. As we scale, it makes sense for a leader with deep knowledge of our infrastructure and the African payments ecosystem to lead us forward.”
Looking Ahead
Muriuki expressed his commitment to the next phase of growth:
“Cellulant has consistently adapted to Africa’s payments landscape. I look forward to scaling our platforms and delivering greater value to the businesses we serve.”
Cellulant operates in more than 24 African countries, supporting over 200 payment methods through its Tingg platform. The company powers payments for sectors including e-commerce, telecoms, travel, and remittances, positioning itself as a leading Pan-African payments provider.
