Britam General Insurance, Hotpoint Appliances, and MIC Global Risks have announced a strategic partnership to offer a 12-month all-risks insurance cover on select appliances purchased at Hotpoint outlets nationwide and online at no extra cost to customers.
The cover is automatically activated at the point of purchase and protects eligible appliances against accidental damage, power surges, fire, water damage, transit loss, theft, burglary, and political violence and terrorism. Customers also benefit from a repair-or-replace guarantee, with claims processed via Britam’s digital claims portal.
What’s Covered
Eligible products include:
- Refrigerators and freezers
- Televisions and selected audio equipment
- Laundry machines and dishwashers
- Cookers (excluding table-tops)
- Room air conditioners
Upon checkout, customers receive a digital insurance certificate, streamlining access to protection and claims.
Market Context
The partnership arrives amid surging demand for household electronics, driven by urbanisation, rising mortgage uptake, and expanding middle-class spending.
According to the KNBS 2025 Economic Outlook, Kenya’s household appliance and consumer electronics market is projected to grow 11.4% in 2025, buoyed by increased disposable incomes and easing inflation.
“Most consumers do not proactively purchase insurance for their household appliances, yet these items are increasingly essential to day-to-day living,” said James Mbithi, CEO & Principal Officer, Britam General Insurance.
“By embedding the cover into the purchase journey, we are meeting customers where they are and making protection accessible, seamless, and relevant.”
Partner Perspectives
Ravi Kanani, CEO of Hotpoint Appliances, emphasised the customer-first approach:
“At Hotpoint, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering not just quality products, but meaningful value and protection long after purchase.”
Puneet Chawla, COO & Principal Officer, MIC Global Risks, added:
“We are making protection accessible and effortless, enabling customers to enjoy peace of mind from the moment they purchase their appliances.”
How It Works
This collaboration leverages the strengths of each partner:
| Partner | Role |
|---|---|
| Hotpoint Appliances | Product verification and customer service via nationwide service centres |
| MIC Global Risks | Insurance brokerage and product delivery support |
| Britam General Insurance | Underwriting, claims approval, and settlement oversight |
With over 40% of urban households in Kenya owning at least one major appliance, a figure expected to surpass 55% by 2027, this initiative offers timely, embedded protection for a growing consumer base.
