The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) has listed Tanzania’s first Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), the Vertex International Securities ETF (VIS-ETF).
Vertex International Securities Limited, a firm with roots in East African investment advisory, manages the VIS-ETF. The ETF is designed to provide Tanzanian investors with access to a diversified portfolio of global equities, thereby enhancing portfolio diversification and market liquidity.
“This listing is a strong reflection of investor trust and our commitment to broadening access to capital market opportunities,” said Mateka Mgeta, CEO of Vertex International Securities, during the launch ceremony.
The ETF raised TZS 6.8 billion, surpassing its initial target of TZS 5 billion by 36%, signalling strong investor appetite for innovative financial products.
What Is the VIS-ETF?
VIS-ETF is a collective investment fund that allows investors to simultaneously hold shares in multiple developed market equities. It is listed under the ticker symbol VIS-ETF and is now available for trading on the DSE.
According to the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA), the ETF is expected to:
- Improve market liquidity
- Attract retail and institutional investors
- Deepen Tanzania’s financial inclusion and capital market participation
Regional Significance
The launch of VIS-ETF positions Tanzania as a regional pioneer in ETF innovation. It aligns with broader East African goals to modernise financial infrastructure and expand access to global investment vehicles.
