Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications provider, has significantly upgraded internet speeds for home and business customers.
This move addresses the growing demand for faster data transfer and processing.
According to the upgrade, the telco offers a new “Platinum Package” with speeds of up to 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) for KSh 20,000 per month. This caters to users with high-bandwidth needs like 4K/8K streaming, online gaming, large file transfers, and virtual reality.

Existing subscribers will automatically receive the increased speeds associated with their current packages.
“The needs of our Enterprise customers are changing each day with the growing need to use technology. The enhanced fibre for business plans will allow our enterprise customers to have a worry-free experience with the provision of backup data,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said in a statement released by Safaricom.
“We have enhanced our Home Internet speeds to cater to the increased demand and usage by offering reliable connectivity and enhanced value for our customers. The introduction of the new speeds offers the capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease, including high-definition streaming 4K/8K, gaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and virtual reality,” Ndegwa added.
Safaricom expanded its fibre optic network by over 3,000 kilometres in the fiscal year ending March 2024. This brings the total length of Safaricom’s fibre infrastructure across Kenya to over 17,000 kilometres.
