Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC24) has revealed that it is ready to embed artificial intelligence in its products.
CEO Tim Cook says Apple’s push into AI while keeping privacy and personalization in mind, moving “beyond artificial intelligence” into “personal intelligence.”
“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of personal intelligence built for your most personal products: your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Intelligence is grounded in the things that make you unique and is available to you system-wide, so you can get things done in the way that works for you,” said Tim Cook.
Microsoft and Google have surged ahead, pushing Apple’s stock price down.
To achieve this, Apple plans to have a revamped Siri voice assistant and a potential collaboration with ChatGPT, and OpenAI.
What do we expect going forward?
Apple Intelligence: At the core of iPhone, iPad, and Mac, Apple Intelligence combines generative models with personal context to deliver useful and relevant intelligence.
It harnesses the power of Apple silicon for on-device processing, ensuring privacy without collecting users’ data.
iOS 18: This update makes the iPhone more personal and intelligent than ever.
Users can arrange apps and widgets freely on the Home Screen, customize Lock Screen buttons, and access more controls in the Control Center.
Generative AI Strategy: Apple embeds generative AI tools within core applications like Safari, Photos, and Notes.
The focus is on practical tools for users, leveraging a combination of on-device and cloud processing.
OpenAI Partnership: There’s speculation about a flagship OpenAI partnership, potentially involving an exclusive chatbot for iPhone owners to enhance Siri.
Litmus Test: WWDC announcements will test Apple’s ability to integrate ChatGPT-like generative AI across devices and services. Missteps could impact its position as a technology leader.
