Bolt, the on-demand mobility platform, has introduced a new in-app cancellation feature to empower riders and curb unsafe practices like offline trips and off-the-app payments.
This new option allows riders to cancel trips if drivers immediately
- Request payment outside the app
- Charge more than the agreed-upon fare
- Suggest going offline for the trip
“Bolt prioritizes the safety and security of our users, and this feature tackles situations that compromise those values,” said Linda Ndungu, Bolt’s Country Manager.
“Offline trips disable crucial safety features like GPS tracking and emergency assistance, leaving users vulnerable. We strongly discourage both drivers and riders from arranging anything outside the app.”
According to Ndungu, remaining online ensures these features’ effectiveness and prioritises our users’ safety. Mitigating actions are also in place for drivers who are continuously reported as soliciting offline trips.
These actions include temporary bans and account suspensions, as we remain dedicated to providing a secure platform for everyone.”
To ensure safety for both drivers and passengers, Bolt encourages both passengers and drivers to take advantage of the safety features provided in the app’s Safety Toolkit.
These features are specifically designed to operate during active (in-app) trips.
Bolt says it is committed to providing a secure and reliable ride-hailing experience for all users. The introduction of the new cancellation reason option reinforces this commitment, offering riders a powerful tool to prioritize their safety and well-being.
