Kenya’s defending Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon began her 2023 season by setting a new world lead time of 3:58:57 at the Doha Diamond League on Friday night.
She ran a world-leading 3:58.57 to secure the win in the women’s 1500-meter race.

“I am very pleased with the start of my season. It was an exciting race but a little windy so I decided not to push too much and focus on winning the race. I have been training well…I really like the fans in Doha. The crowd and the fans are really amazing…thank you for coming out to cheer us on,” Faith Kipyegon said.
Ethiopian Welteji Diribe finished second with a time of 3:59:34.
Her compatriot Hailu Frewyni finished third with 4:00:29.
