June Chepkemei has been appointed acting managing director of the Kenya Investment Authority (KENINVEST) with immediate effect.
Chepkemei, who has been the head of Marketing and Communications at the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KOTDA) replaces Olivia Rachier
Olivia has been serving in an acting capacity since November 9, 2021, following the departure of Dr Moses Ikihara after eight years at the organisation.
Chepkemei is expected to spearhead strategies to attract and grow investments in Kenya from the current Ksh 61.5 billion to over Ksh 1.2 trillion by the end of 2023.
She is accredited for leading Team Kenya in a successful bid to host the 41st International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) world conference, slated for 2024.
Chepkemei was also part of the team that was charged with delivering Technology and Innovation Jamhuri in 2022.
She also served as a member of the Taskforce on the Kenya Media Policy Guidelines, following her appointment by ICT cabinet secretary in 2021, and pioneered the Konza Innovation Ecosystem Initiative, which has launched over 100 enterprises to date.
She was previously Project Coordinator for a New Institute of Strategic National Importance: Kenya Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) developed by the Ministry of ICT & Digital Economy in partnership with The Ministry of Education (MoE).
Chepkemei was the Communications Business Partner at Safaricom Plc before joining KoTDA, following a six-year career in the media.
She holds a master’s degree in Communications Studies from Moi University, a Bachelor’s Degree in PR and Communications from Moi University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing of the UK and an executive certificate on Innovation from Stanford Centre for Professional Development.
She is a Chartered Marketer by the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK.
