Registration is now open for two Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon 2022.
The 19th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon will consist of both a virtual and a physical marathon. The physical marathon will be held on Sunday, October 30 2022, at the Southern Bypass with Uhuru gardens as the marathon venue.
The virtual marathon will be held from Sunday, October 23 2022, to Sunday, October 30 2022.

The marathon targets 25,000 runners – 15,000 for the physical and 10,000 for the virtual marathon.
“The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon will feature all the six race categories: 42km, 21km, 10km, 21km wheelchair – male and female. The 5km Family Fun Run race and the Corporate Relay Challenge,” Peter Gitau, Standard Chartered Bank COO and Chairman, Nairobi Marathon Local Organising Committee, said during the announcement Saturday at Arboretum Nairobi.
Gitau added that the integrity of the race is critical. As a result, they have put in place standards to ensure that it measures up to the requisite IAAF standards.
“Take advantage of the early bird entry fee of Ksh2,000 up to October 10 2022. From 10th to 16th October, the entry fee will go up to Ksh 2,500.”

The bank launched its first Marathon Sustainability Report during the announcement, highlighting the fundamental matrices being tracked and milestones achieved in 2021.
“Last year, we started the journey of ensuring our marathon goes beyond a sporting event to become a platform for driving our sustainability and community engagement initiatives. We aim to minimize the negative impact of our events,” Kariuki Ngari, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Kenya disclosed.

“The bank recently launched its first sustainability impact report, which marked our public commitment to become the world’s most sustainable and responsible bank. We are making an effort to ensure that the same is reflected in our Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.”
Last year, the bank achieved a number of its marathon sustainability aspirations including recycling 100% of waste generated from the 2021 marathon, planting over 11,000 tree seedlings, increasing participation of PWDS in the marathon to over 80 and channelling funds raised from the marathon towards supporting young people, especially girls and young people with disabilities to gain new skills and expertise.
To protect the integrity of the event, the organizing committee will collaborate closely with the AntiDoping Agency of Kenya (ADAK).
This will complement the services of the Race Technical Director, Route Marshals and CCTV cameras along the course.
