Amazon will be retiring Alexa Internet, Inc., its web traffic analysis company.

In an announcement post, the Alexa.com team said the company stopped offering new subscriptions on December 8th, 2021, and will shut down the site on May 1st, 2022.

“Twenty-five years ago, we founded Alexa Internet. After two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022. Thank you for making us your go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and so much more,” reads the announcement.

Alexa was founded in 1996 by Brewster Kahle and Bruce Gilliat and bought by Amazon in 1999.

Alternatives to Alexa Internet would probably be the likes of backlinko.com, semrush.com, ahref.com, similarweb.com, and moz.com.

“The announcement of Alexa Internet’s closure was more than unexpected. Alexa Internet has long offered low-cost competitive landscape data for marketers. As access to digital information becomes harder to access, I believe it’s our responsibility to make sure people aren’t left behind,” says Eugene Levin, Chief Strategy Officer at Semrush.

“It was a no-brainer for us to come up with this Alexa Internet-user-specific offer. Marketers need high-quality data gathering tools to do their work effectively, and our products can fill the gap Alexa Internet leaves behind. Our attempt to connect with marketers impacted by Alexa Internet’s closure aligns with our company’s mission and truly reflects our culture of support. We can be a good substitute for Alexa Internet, and we’ll do everything reasonably possible to make sure we’re supporting real professionals with a toolkit that meets their diverse needs.”
