Kenya Airways has announced special ticket discounts of up to 30 per cent off to destinations across its network. This applies to tickets purchased by the 24 th September 2021 for travel up to 31 st March 2022.
The airline says this is aimed at “exciting customers to travel and reconnect to new experiences with a delightful touch”, in line with this year’s upcoming Customer Service Week, The Power of Service.
“This cements our purpose as the pride of Africa by offering them travel options and discounts that will help them enjoy their holidays even better. This will be further enhanced as government lockdowns and travel restrictions lift,” Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer, Julius Thairu said in an emailed statement on the campaign.
The Kenyan airline currently flys to 41 destinations worldwide, 34 of which are in Africa and carries over four million passengers annually.
Before 2020, it used to fly approximately 5 million passengers per year, 2019 being the record year. In 2020, it suffered the pandemic, it dropped to about 1.8 million.
“So a significant drop and those numbers are reflected in our revenue numbers and subsequently our losses. We also used to fly to 53 destinations across the world — that dropped to 41 but we hope to scale it back up a little bit more. Within Africa, we used to fly to over 40 destinations. That again has dropped to currently 36 destinations. Some we need to reactivate and see how that grows going forward,” Allan Kilavuka, group managing director and CEO at Kenya Airways told CNN.
