Kenya’s largest retailer by branches, Naivas, Friday announced the expansion of its retail sales network by adding its latest food market in Kisumu, taking its total count to74 in the country.

As part of its expansion, Naivas Food Market Simba becomes the second Food Market and the third in Kisumu city strengthening its presence in western Kenya.

“This is our biggest branch in the country. It is located in a spacious building with enough parking slots for customers,” chief commercial officer Willy Kimani said.

On the other hand, Carrefour, owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim, plans to open two stores in July and August in Kisumu.

Other retailers in the region include Khetias Supermarket with two branches, Quick Mart with three outlets and Chandarana Food market, Shivling supermarket.

According to Cytonn Investments, Kenya’s retail sector is experiencing increased investor favour due to the gradual reopening of the economy. 

This is based on the sector’s performance in H1 ‘2021 which witnessed a slight improvement of 0.1 per cent rental yield to 7.6 per cent from 7.5 per cent in FY’ 2020 attributed to increased market activities in the retail sector.
