Naivasha-based Keroche Breweries said on Tuesday it expects its newly launched product, Vienna Ice Strong Lager will generate KSh1 billion to Kenya Revenue Authority annually.

Tabitha Karanja, the brewer’s chief executive disclosed that the Vienna Ice Strong Lager has a 10 per cent alcohol content, the strongest in the market.

“The new product Vienna Ice Strong Lager will generate over KSh1 billion to KRA every year and this will rise with time as per our market projections,” she said. The CEO said.

“Taking one Vienna Ice lager will roughly be equal to two regular beers of an equal volume of 500ml,” she added.

Mrs Karanja admitted that the pandemic had adversely affected the liquor sector, with sales dropping by 25% due to the closure of bars. She was however optimistic that things would change in the coming months with their projections of attaining 10% of the country’s market still on track.

“Tax remains a major challenge for us and we are content with the recent court ruling that directed the Competition Authority to the issue of beer packaging,” she said.

Keroche Breweries was established in August 1997, at the home of the owners, Joseph and Tabitha Karanja.

Keroche is known for its natural, healthy and sugar-free products ranging from Beers: Summit Lager, Summit Malt, Spirits: Crescent Vodka, Crescent Brandy, Crescent Whisky & Crescent Dry Gin, Ready to Drink Vodkas: Viena Ice & Viena Ice – Lemon Twist and Wines: Valley Wine Pinotage, Valley Wine Chenin Blanc & Valley wine Sauvignon Blanc.
