Istanbul Basaksehir beat Manchester United 2-1 as former Chelsea striker Demba Ba scores.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men handed Istanbul Basaksehir their first ever win in the competition, an admittedly deserved 2-1 home victory.

Demba Ba and Edin Visca scored a pair of first half goals to give the Turkish side all three points, and Anthony Martial’s header just before half time proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal.

The first goal was reminiscent of a goal scored by the Ba while at Chelsea when Basaksehir cleared a corner following a United attack.

The clearance found its way to Demba Ba — who was inexplicably all on his own just inside his own half. United had no one back, and even past his Chelsea and Newcastle prime, Ba was never in any danger of being caught by the trailing Nemanja Matić.

At the 40th minute mark, all the elements of the opening goal were involved as Basaksehir doubled their lead. Bruno Fernandes lost possession needlessly, and the break was on for Basaksehir.

Harry Maguire fell for Demba Ba’s dummy, and the ball found its way to Basaksehir captain Edin Visca, who blasted his finish into the net after arriving unmarked to the top of the box.

Anthony Martial pulled one goal back for United just before half-rime but the hosts would hold on and earn a deserved win.

Manchester United travel to Everton in the Premier League on Saturday at 12.30pm. Istanbul Basaksehir host Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday at 1pm.
