Kenya’s National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS), popularly known as Huduma Namba, cards are now ready for rollout.
However, this will depend on whether Parliament vets and approves the Data Commissioner according to the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who said the NIIMS process is complete and awaiting rollout.
“Your Excellency I am happy to report that the Huduma Namba process is complete and Kenyans will start receiving their cards as soon as Parliament approves data commissioner nominee,” Matiangi said during the 11th Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County Tuesday.
He added, “This issuance will be done in strict compliance to the guidelines issued by the court”.
President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated IEBC Director of Voter Registration and Election Operations, Immaculate Kassait, to become the country’s first Data Commissioner.
Huduma Namba is expected to be the ‘single source of truth’ on a person’s identity.
The database will contain information of all Kenyan citizens and foreign nationals residing in Kenya and will serve as a reference point for ease of service delivery to the people of Kenya and the people in Kenya.
