Serena Hotel has opened its first five-star hotel in the populous Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of its strategic expansion plan.
The listed hospitality chain which operates upscale hotels and resorts in East Africa, Southern Africa, and South Asia in a statement said, “Goma Serena Hotel now open for bookings.”
Goma in the DRC becomes home to its sixth City Hotel, the Goma Serena Hotel.
“And now, for the first time ever, Goma is about to have the only 5-star hotel, Goma Serena Hotel.”
Group managing director of TPS Serena Hotels – Africa, Mahmud Jan Mohamed said: “Expansion of the Serena brand through the opening of Goma Serena Hotel in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a welcome addition to the Serena portfolio in Africa.”
The hotel is accessible within a 10-minute drive from the Goma International Airport and a 5-minute drive from the Rwanda border. It is close to Kahuzi-Biega National Park and the active volcanic Mt Nyiragongo.
The new hotel comprises 109 rooms in seven room categories all with a private balcony offering sweeping views of Lake Kivu. Each of the rooms has been inspired by authentic African art-including local Congolese artifacts inviting travelers to discover and connect with the history and culture of the region. Modern amenities, personalized touches, and exceptional service complete the guests’ comfort and experience.
Residents can enjoy the Maisha Health Club and Spa, gym, Olympic-sized swimming pool, and nightclub. Every room has a private balcony with a view of Lake Kivu, a jacuzzi, and a rain shower.
“With our existing Seran portfolio, the hotel will benefit from the group’s regional presence and we can offer a safari circuit covering Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar and now the DRC,” Mr Mohamed said.
