Jurgen Klopp hits out at Chelsea and Manchester City for huge summer spending.

Klopp led Liverpool to their first Premier League title last season in impressive fashion.

The Reds have not been active in the transfer market with pundits questioning whether his side will be able to defend the title this season.

The German has slammed Manchester City and Chelsea for their huge spending this summer.

City and Chelsea have been busy with summer spending, bringing in additions to the squad to bolster their sides ahead of the season starting this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp has stressed that Liverpool don’t need to spend big to enjoy major success

The Liverpool manager has made only one addition to the squad that won the title last season, bringing in back-up left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos for £11.25million.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Klopp said:

‘We live in a world at the moment with a lot of uncertainty,’

‘For some clubs it seems less important how uncertain the future is. Owned by countries, owned by oligarchs, that’s the truth. We are a different kind of club.’

Chelsea have brought in Timo Werner — a player Liverpool had pursued before the coronavirus pandemic — Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech for £230million in total.

City have completed big-money deals for Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres and also want another new defender.

Liverpool begin their title defense on Saturday, hosting promoted side Leeds FC.
