Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was once again the hero for the North London side which further emphasized the importance of the Gabon international to the side.

Aubameyang opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the first half with a sublime finish just outside the box.

The FA Cup hero for Arsenal received a pass from Bukayo Saka, rolled the ball inside and lifted a spectacular effort that flew past Alisson to open the scoring for the Gunners.

An organised show of defence kept the lead for Arsenal, with Liverpool pressing for an equalizer.

The Reds’ effort would be rewarded in the second half when substitute Takumi Minamino finished off a move by the Premier League champions.

The Arsenal backline protested for handball on Mohammed Salah in the build-up to the goal but a review by VAR confirmed that the goal stood.

Arsenal tried to rally in the closing minutes, with youngster Joe Willock’s header glancing just wide.

With the match all square, it was down to penalties.
