Lewis Hamilton to race for Mercedes in new all-black car and overalls in solidarity with Black Lives Movement

Lewis Hamilton will race in an all-black Mercedes in support for the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Mercedes have dropped the silver color for black in support of the star’s fight against racism and boost for diversity.

The reigning world champion called out fellow F1 drivers for their silence in the fight against racism around the world and in the sport.

Hamilton has been vocal about the lack of diversity in the sport that is dominated by ‘Whites’.

Mercedes have dropped the use of the traditional ‘Silver Arrows’ trim for the 2020 season.

Fellow British Valtteri Bottas will also race in an all-black base livery as a public pledge to improve the diversity of Mercedes when the Austrian Grand Prix begins on Sunday.

Hamilton and Valtteri will also wear black overalls and adapt the designs of their helmets inorder to reflect the campaign.

The message ‘End Racism’ will be displayed on the halo of both cars, while the new F1 initiative #WeRaceAsOne will feature on the mirrors.

Hamilton, who attended a Black Lives Matter protest in London earlier this month, worked closely with Mercedes and team principal Toto Wolff on the project.

Speaking about Mercedes’ decision to design the black car, Hamilton said: ‘It’s so important that we seize this moment and use it to educate ourselves whether you are an individual, brand or company to make real meaningful changes when it comes to ensuring equality and inclusivity.
