Safaricom Plc, Kenya’s largest mobile-phone operator, has revamped its Business Payments service, to allow direct transactions from Mpesa business tills.

The new feature will allow Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to send money and make payments from their business tills directly.

“Our merchants can now use the funds they receive to make payments on the M-pesa ecosystem as well as send funds to their bank accounts,” says Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, Chief Officer- Financial Services at Safaricom PLC. 

“Empowering small businesses to be more efficient by providing digital solutions that enable them do more is at the heart of what Safaricom does. M-PESA is deeply committed to not only enabling them to receive funds but more importantly help them make payments seamless.”

From the revamped business payments service, through the Bulk Disbursement Service (B2C),  businesses can now send money to employees and customers directly from their tills. 

In addition, the platform enables direct transactions to suppliers from the wallet for goods and bill payments.

It also allows a businessperson to withdraw cash from an M-Pesa agent, a bank, or directly to their phone.
