Louis Kisia has quit as coach of Mwamba Rugby Club, after 15 years of service to take up head coach role at Championship side, Strathmore Leos.
“I have been with this club for 15 years, 14 as a player and one as a coach. I have played for the badge, bled and sweated for this club. Leaving this club was not an easy decision to make but I had to accept the Leos’ role for my own personal development,” an emotional Kisia said to a stunned players’ huddle after the dramatic 15-13 win over Kenya Harlequin on Saturday evening at RFUEA Grounds.
He urged the players to continue working hard and in unity with the rest of the technical bench so as to maintain the good start to this year’s Kenya Cup campaign.
“Continue being coachable, respect your coaches and most importantly don’t lose focus on what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the season,” he said.
On behalf of the players, Edwin Machanje wished Kisia well in his new assignment. “I have played with you for 13 years in Kulabu, we’ve won some battles and lost others. We just want to thank you for your service and wish you success in your next challenge,” he said.
Kisia joined Mwamba in December 2004 straight from St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale. He has captained the club in both Sevens and Fifteens codes and won numerous titles including the 2013 Enterprise Cup. He joined the technical bench in 2018 and was instrumental in guiding the Sevens team to two runners-up positions in the 2018 and 2019 Stanbic Sevens Circuit.
