Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia bagged all three points on Sunday after thumping arch-rivals, AFC Leopards 4-0 at Kasarani.
The Pollackboys were on fire in the second half after a poor show during the first half in which Ingwe dominated.
Gislein Yikpe scored a brace in an impressive show before he was hauled off the pitch due to an injury.
Ingwe had been touted as the favourites following their recent form and a win would have propelled it to the summit.
Ingwe would have gone one up in the first half when John Mark Makwatta was brought down in the box by Gor defender Joash Onyango but the referee refused to award a penalty, a shocking decision.
Gor survived another attack when a header from defender Soter Kayumba came off the upright.
That was enough for AFC Leopards as they were badly cornered in the second half and Ingwe were thoroughly punished for failing to utilize the first-half chances they had.
Yikpe struck in the 55th minutes sending the stadium in a frenzy after heading home Kenneth Muguna’s corner.
He was however booked after his wild celebration where he took off his shirt in joy.
He was on target again barely ten minutes later with a second goal after a beautiful game with Clifton Miheso.
Gor Mahia was to bring on Boniface Omondi for Francis Afriyie and minutes later they tripled their lead.
A quick counter saw Omondi spring the ball to Miheso with the former Leopards man sending a long ranger shot that beat keeper Ochan at the near post; the player refusing to celebrate his effort as a show of respect to his former employers.
Leopards were to pull a goal back seven minutes from time through Tresor Ndikumana at a time when Gor Mahia had to withdraw Yikpe for Nicholas Kipkirui.
Kenneth Muguna was then sent to rest for Joakim Oluoch but the home team was not done yet as Lawrence Juma scored a fourth following some good work from Boniface Omondi down the right.
An additional five minutes was served to enable both sides to make the necessary adjustments on the scoreline but none was able to make any difference in those minutes.
