Uganda Airlines took off to the skies after 18 years with its inaugural Flight UR206 from Entebbe to Nairobi on Tuesday.
The flight ushers in a new era for the Uganda national carrier that aims to connect Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, Mogadishu in Somalia and Juba in South Sudan.
President Yoweri Museveni in a Tweet said that “We have been spending over $450 million annually in foreign exchange, on travel by air. This Airline will change this and facilitate tourism as well.”
Similarly, President Museveni who was represented at the official launch of the Uganda Airlines by Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said, “Uganda plays a critical role in the geopolitical and economic stability of East Africa as a region, and as a nation, we are strategically placed to serve our neighbours.
With our national airline, our friends in South Sudan, DR Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and elsewhere will be able to easily access our market and easily connect to their destinations.”
