The United States of America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a level 3 travel health notice for Kenya due to COVID-19.

A level three travel advisory means that American citizens are advised to reconsider their trips to places with high COVID-19 infection rates, and only travel when it is absolutely necessary.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level three Travel Health Notice for Kenya due to COVID-19, indicating a high level of COVID-19 in the country,” the advisory from the US embassy in Nairobi read in part dated January 4, 2022.

June 2021, the CDC issued an Incidence 2 Travel Health Notice for Kenya due to COVID-19, suggesting a moderate level of infections in the country.

The Notice was, however, downgraded to level three in August after a surge in cases.

A Level Three advisory notice refers to countries where there have been between 100 and 500 cases recorded per 100,000 people in the last 28 days.

Level One requires travellers to observe standard protocols such as wearing masks, as infections are not high.

Wednesday, Kenya recorded 813 additional Covid-19 positive cases with a positivity rate of 13.5 per cent from a sample size of 6,005 tested within the last 24 hours.

This brought the total confirmed cases to 314,490 and cumulative tests done to 3,117,407.

The Ministry of Health further disclosed that 10,779,531 vaccines had been administered across the country as of Tuesday.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.1 per cent, while the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 16.8 per cent.
