Fly540, East Africa’s low-cost airline says it is pushing back the resumption of direct flights to Kisumu City amid growing concerns over the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

In October 2021, the airline had said it would restart Nairobi-Kisumu flights on December 1, 2021. However, it did not happen.

“We have pushed forward plans to restart Nairobi- Kisumu flights due to Covid situation in the country,” Fly540 chief executive Don Smith said as reported by The Business Daily.

Fly540 halted passenger operations on the Kisumu route in March due to Covid-19 travel restrictions imposed by the government.

Other airlines that operate on the route are, Jambojet, Kenya Airways, 748 Air Services, Renegade Air and Safarilink.

Headquartered in Nairobi the airline operates from Jomo Kenyatta International and Wilson Airports. It flies to Eldoret, Kisumu, Lamu, Lodwar, Malindi, Mombasa and across the border to Juba and Zanzibar.

Fly540 took to the skies in November 2006 with its first flights between Nairobi and Mombasa. In 2010, it expanded its operations internationally with services flying to Tanzania and South Sudan.
