Ruth Chepngetich, Seifu Tura Triumph at the 43rd Chicago Marathon

Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich, and Ethiopia’s Seifu Tura won the women’s and men’s titles respectively on Sunday at the 43rd Chicago Marathon.

Ruth crossed the line in 2:22:31. American Emma Bates finished second in 2:24:20. Sara Hall finished third in 2:27:19, and Keira D’Amato finished fourth in 2:28:22.

Chepngetich takes home $55,000 for the win, Bates ($45,000) for second place and Hall $35,000 for third.

“The race was good but it was not easy,” Chepngetich said. “I pushed alone from the 10k. The weather was nice. I believed in myself and I was fortunate and I pushed myself.”

Tura took the victory in 2hrs 6mins 12secs ahead of America’s Galen Rupp who finished, 23 seconds later, and Kenya’s Eric Kiptanui was third in 2:06:51.

“I’m very happy to have won here in Chicago,” Tura said. “I prepared for more than three months for this race. If it hadn’t been for the heat I was hoping to run a personal best time.”
