Former Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama has announced his retirement from international football.
The 30-year-old Montreal Impact midfielder made the announcement on his social media pages, stating that he is ‘passing the mantle to the young talents in the country’.
Wanyama, who played for Celtic, Southampton and Tottenham in Europe, earned 60 caps playing for the national team having made his debut in 2007.
In the statement published on his social media pages, Wanyama said:
“Growing up it was always my dream to represent my country. With a great deal of pride, I can say that I have been fortunate to live my dream. From making my debut against Nigeria to captaining the team in the African Cup of Nations finals in Egypt, the past 14 years have gone beyond what I ever thought possible,”
The midfielder last played for the national team against Comoros on November 15, 2020 in their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Kasarani, Nairobi.
