Martin Odegaard’s sublime freekick in the first half gave Arsenal a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Gunners went ahead in the first half courtesy of a superbly taken freekick by Martin Odegaard.

Ashley Westwood had fouled Bukayo Saka just outside Burnley’s box and the former Real Madrid midfielder stepped up sending a beauty of a free kick over the wall and out of Nick Pope’s reach.

Both sides pushed in the second half and had a string of missed chances on either end of the pitch.

There was a scare for the visitors 70 minutes in, as Ben White undercooked a backpass and a penalty was initially awarded after Matěj Vydra went over Ramsdale’s foot, but a VAR check concluded that he’d also got the ball.

Burnley pushed for a late equaliser, but the visitors stood strong to earn all three points.

Elsewhere, Manchester City played to a 0-0 draw against Southampton at the Etihad stadium.
