  • They finished second in the league last year but lost in the Europa League final

Manchester United have confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new contract to extend his stay as manager.

The Norwegian has signed a deal which will take his stay at the club until 2024, with an option of a further year.

Solskjaer was appointed on a caretaker basis to replace Jose Mourinho in December 2018 before he was made permanent manager in March 2019 on a three-year deal.

Though Solskjaer has yet to win a trophy during his reign as manager at United, the club have improved year-on-year since his appointment.

They just had their best season under the Norwegian finishing second in the league, their highest placing since the 2017-18 season.

The club also made the final of the Europa League but suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Spanish side Villarreal.
