The World Boxing Commission (WBC) confirms the trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
The boxing body will authorize the heavyweight clash between Wilder and Fury the moment the July 24 date at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is formally confirmed.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has given that assurance, another firm indicator that the Fury-Joshua blockbuster is being put on hold yet again, this time until December in Saudi Arabia.
Sulaiman said:
‘Yes, we will sanction Fury v Wilder on request. We are on board with Tyson and Anthony Joshua for the undisputed title but a fight between our distinguished current and former heavyweight champions is also an outstanding event.’
After so many months of negotiations, Anthony Joshua is also going to Plan B for an alternative summer fight.
An August date for a mandatory defence of one his alpha-belts against former undisputed cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk is under discussion.
Any lingering hope of the Joshua-Fury mega-bucks extravaganza going ahead as planned in Jeddah on August 14 has disappeared with the assertion from team Wilder that the Bronze Bomber is not interested in taking step-aside money.
It came after mediating judge Daniel Feinstein ruled he has a contractual right to fight the Gypsy King again by September 15, no matter how huge any offer of compensation.
