Lewis Hamilton won the Portuguese Grand Prix, coming from second on the grid.

The seven-time world champion made two impressive overtaking moves: first, a revenge pass on Max Verstappen, who had just zipped by him cleanly on the outside of Turn 1 – the place where most of the action unfolded in the Algarve.

Hamilton then went around the outside of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas, the pole-sitter, on lap 20 of 66 to take the lead.

Now in clean air, Hamilton put his foot down and opened up a gap he never looked like surrendering.

Red Bull’s No 2 Sergio Perez finished fourth, a place ahead of Lando Norris, who kept up his brilliant form for McLaren, finishing fifth.

He is showing a real step-up in performance this season and is still just 21. His team-mate Daniel Ricciardo came from 16th on the grid to finish ninth.
