The ‘special one’ Jose Mourinho has been sacked by premier league side Tottenham Hotspur.
The 58-year-old tactician was sacked on Monday, April 19, 2021 just 17 months after he was hired to replace Mauricio Pochettino who is currently flying high with PSG.
Mourinho had been touted by pundits to deliver spurs its first silverware since 2008.
“The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties,” the club said in a statement.
His sacking also comes barely a week before he could lead his side against in-form Manchester City in the League Cup final.
Tottenham have been struggling in their bid to qualify for the Champions League via a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Spurs are currently seventh and suffered a shock Europa League last-16 exit against Dinamo Zagreb.
However, on Monday, the club decided, according to reliable reports, to part ways with the tactician after he reportedly refused to take player to the pitch for training after it announced decision to join the newly controversial breakaway European Super League.
The league has at least 12 clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City among top tier clubs.
“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution,” Chairman, Daniel Levy said.
“Ryan Mason will take First Team training today and a further update will follow in due course,” added the club.
