Inter Milan continued their charge for domestic triumph with a narrow but vital 2-1 win over Sassuolo on Wednesday evening.
Antonio Conte’s side took a vital step forward in their race for the league title with a home win that moved the side eleven points clear at the summit of the table.
Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez ensured that Inter now hold a vital command over second-placed AC Milan.
The hosts came into the match pressing since the early minutes of the match. Lautaro Martinez with Romelu Lukaku quickly gave the Sassuolo defense a threat.
The Belgian opened the scoring when he met a cross from Ashley Young and planted a header into Sassuolo’s net in the tenth minute.
Martinez wrapped the win in the second half though the visitors did pull one goal back through Traore deep into second half.
Elsewhere, defending champions Juventus got a 2-1 win over Napoli with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala getting the win for Andrea Pirlo’s side.
The result leaves the defending champions in third of the table with 59 points.
