Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) Council says Ms Elsy C. Sainna has taken over as the organisations’ Executive Director in an acting capacity from January 1, 2021.

She takes over from Mr Abdul Noormohamed whose tenure as the Executive Director ended on December 31, 2020.

Since joining ICJ Kenya on August 1, 2019, Abdul played a pivotal role in spearheading ICJ Kenya’s 2021-2024 strategic plan development process.

“He has helped to recalibrate and streamlining the organisation’s operations, deepening our strategic partnerships, among many other notable accomplishments,” Kelvin Mogeni Chairman, ICJ Kenya said.

Abdul is currently the Africa Director at Luminate, the philanthropic arm of the Omidyar Network.

“Elsy has served at the ICJ Kenya Secretariat in various leadership capacities. She possesses experience and skills in leadership, management, strategy, programme and project design, in-depth knowledge in public international law, human rights, gender studies, constitutional, and policy reform,” says Mogeni.

Elsy is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree with distinction in International Legal Studies.

She is a recipient of the Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA) Fellowship from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington DC.

She earned her LL.B. from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and a post-graduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
