• West Ham have made it three wins on the spin with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa
  • Angelo Ogbonna and Jarrod Bowen struck at the start of each half to win the tie
  • Ollie Watkins saw a penalty hit the bar before a late goal was ruled out by VAR

David Moyes’ side continued their impressive form with a third win on the row on Monday night.

Michail Antonio was back for West Ham after over a month out with a hamstring injury and straight back into the action, setting up a chance for Tomas Soucek which Matt Targett deflected wide.

Targett’s sprawling intervention, though, only delayed West Ham’s perfect start by seconds.

Bowen swung in the resulting corner and Ogbonna towered above Targett at the back-post, thundering a header into the net.

Villa mustered an impressive response, taking control of the game.

And when Grealish levelled, smashing past Lukasz Fabianski from 20 yards with the aid of a deflection off Ogbonna, it was fully deserved.

West Ham’s start to the second half was even quicker than in the first following vital contributions from Moyes’s two substitutes – Said Benrahma and Haller.

Both were involved in the move that ended with Berahama crossing for Bowen to divert West Ham’s second past Martinez just 29 seconds into the half.

Ollie Watkins was left a bitter man as he had his chance to pull the team back from the spot but his effort crashed against the post. He would then have a late equaliser chalked off by VAR.

The Hammers’ win moves them up to fifth to continue their strong start.
