Everton’s James Rodriguez struggling with testicle injury

Everton’s James Rodriguez struggling with testicle injury.

James Rodriguez is a doubt for Everton’s trip to Newcastle as he continues to struggle with the after-effects of a sensitive injury he sustained in the Merseyside derby.

The Colombia international damaged his testicle following an early collision with Virgil van Dijk during the 2-2 draw with Liverpool, a blow that left him with severe bruising and unable to train for most of last week.

The Colombian playmaker suffered the injury during his side’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti described Rodriguez as having a ‘haematoma’ and the 29-year-old was restricted to resting to let the damage settle down. He wore compression pants to help the healing process.

The playmaker has been using a pressure-treatment therapy machine called NormaTec to help reduce bruising as ice is unable to be used.

The technology works by massaging the legs using air pressure to improve circulation and lessen bruising.

The injury had made him a doubt for the Toffees’ clash at Southampton last week but he did end up playing the whole match.

Rodriguez played against the Saints six days ago, but by the end of the game, he found it difficult to run.

Everton would have made a substitution but had already made their permitted three changes and had lost Lucas Digne, who had been sent off.

Ancelotti could find himself with selection problems in attack at St James’ Park, with Richarlison serving the second game of a three-match suspension.
