Kenya School Headteachers declare they do not have funds to run institutions.
The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association has called on the government to intervene as the schools are not able to run most operations.
The association is calling on the Ministry of Education to direct parents to pay school fees for their children who reported back last Monday after a seven month hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
It is reported that most of the students who reported back to school did not pay the school fees for the new term, thus crippling the schools’ activities.
Speaking to the press, the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) chairman Kahi Indimuli said:
‘Principals are facing hard times because without funds, it’s literally impossible to feed learners and cater for their boarding requirements.’
Last week, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha directed school heads to allow students back without school fees.
The CS asked principals to ensure that no child is sent home because of school fees whether in private or public schools.
However, school heads say parents have taken advantage of the CS directive and released their children without fees.
