Mikel Arteta says he will take blame for failing with Mesut Ozil.

The Gunners Boss says that he will take the fault for failing to get the best out of Mesut Ozil at the club.

Ozil, alongside Sokratis, was omitted from the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads. This means that the creative midfielder could not feature again for the North London side, having not been involved in any professional game with the side since March.

The Spaniard has further insisted that the former Real Madrid attacking midfielder has been sidelined for off-pitch issues and instead insisted that he should have got more out of the player.

Arteta said:

“My job is to get the best out of every player, to contribute to the team performance,”

“Here I feel at the moment, today, that I have failed. I want the best possible Mesut for the team. And in some moments I was able to get close to that, and at the moment I have not been able to do it because I have to make the decision to leave him out of the squad.”

Ozil last featured for the side on March 7 before the season was curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Suggestions have been made on the ‘freezing’ of Ozil to his decision to refuse to take a pay-cut like the rest of the squad in April. Another suggestion has been to the alleged disappointment on the player’s part that Arsenal did not back him when he criticised China’s mistreatment of Uighur Muslims last December.

In his message on his social media pages, Ozil spoke of his optimism when Arteta joined the side as manager. He went on to highlight that his performances on the field were remarkable only for him to be axed from the side.
