Arsenal leave out Mesut Ozil of 25-man Premier League squad.

Mesut Ozil may have played his last game for Arsenal after his fall from grace continued when he was left out of Mikel Arteta’s Premier League squad on Tuesday.

Ozil, who has not played for Arsenal since March or made a matchday squad since June, was dealt a first blow when he was left out of their Europa League plans last week.

Arsenal’s £350,000-a-week playmaker will now be paid to train and maintain his fitness for the rest of the year after also being axed from Arteta’s Premier League squad for the first half of the season.

He was left out along with defender Sokratis – another omitted from the Europa League squad.

The pair will only be able to feature for the Under 23s until their situation is reviewed in January.

Ozil has not played for the Gunners since refusing to take a pay-cut following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Arsenal had hoped to agree a deal to terminate his contract, which ends next summer.

Ozil has received lucrative offers from the Middle East, but he has made it clear he intends to see out his deal, handing Arsenal a major financial headache.

The remainder of the World Cup winner’s contract is worth around £12million.
