High-spirited Everton take on wounded-Liverpool in a battle for the Merseyside bragging rights.

When Everton announced the signing of Carlo Ancelotti last season, not many would imagine the Toffees sitting on top of the table the following season.

Captures of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, Allan from Napoli, Doucure from Watford and a free-scoring Dominic Calvert-Lewin have the blue side of Merseyside coming into the match with more confidence than before.

In Ancelotti, Everton got a manager whose resume is nothing short of brilliance. While some questioned whether the Italian was past his best, the start to the season has reminded them how effective the man can be – with a good squad.

It was exactly ten years today that Everton last registered a win over their rivals. Within that time, the Reds have conquered both Europe and the Premier League with ruthlessness – up until the visit to Villa Park.

Seven goals hit the Reds’ net and Klopp was shocked. His side had suffered the worst defeat in their Premier League history.

Khusoko Sports takes a look at the teams ahead of their clash on Saturday afternoon:

Managers

In his career as a manager, Ancelotti has faced Klopp eight times. The second six meetings are in the Champions League, one in the Premier League and the other in the Premier League Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti won 3 times, Klopp won three, the other two games have ended in a draw. The two head to head records are still in balance.

Men to watch

Jurgen Klopp expressed his side’s joy to welcome back Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara who recovered from coronavirus.

During the side’s humiliating defeat to Villa, the Reds lacked Mane’s directness, agility and eye for goal.

In midfield, Fabinho and Keita could not handle Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley who were the architects of the resounding win.

Today’s clash presents another challenge – containing Doucure and Allan who have been Everton’s pivot this season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the man of the moment. Adding an international goal on his England debut, Calvert-Lewin has scored nine goals already for Everton this season.

Verdict

I will go with an Everton win.
