When Everton announced the signing of Carlo Ancelotti last season, not many would imagine the Toffees sitting on top of the table the following season.
Captures of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, Allan from Napoli, Doucure from Watford and a free-scoring Dominic Calvert-Lewin have the blue side of Merseyside coming into the match with more confidence than before.
In Ancelotti, Everton got a manager whose resume is nothing short of brilliance. While some questioned whether the Italian was past his best, the start to the season has reminded them how effective the man can be – with a good squad.
It was exactly ten years today that Everton last registered a win over their rivals. Within that time, the Reds have conquered both Europe and the Premier League with ruthlessness – up until the visit to Villa Park.
